Red Lake

Boozhoo! Aanii! Tansi! In October 2010, Graphic Novel Artist Chad Solomon held an art workshop in Red Lake, Ontario for Club Amick readers attending the Akwe;go Program at the Red Lake Indian Friendship Centre. He was accompanied by Bearpaws, Rabbit and Strawberry, life-size puppets whom represent three main characters in his series, Rabbit and Bearpaws. Both Chad and the puppets received a warm welcome from the readers who participated in the workshop with great enthusiasm. Readers learned how to create a mini-comic strip using their imagination and stories from their communities. Readers were accompanied by local parents and teachers turning the evening into a collaborative community event! Chi-Miigwech to Lori Rolland, Akwe;go Program Worker for making this visit possible, and to Dianne Bennet and Jeannette Duspasquir for hosting the event.
